Google Assistant Light Colors

Google Assistant understands many different color names, but it’s tough to find an exhaustive list with all of the Google Assistant light color options. On top of that, brands have their own color lists, like this Phillips Hue color list. To help with this confusion, below is a complete list of light color names that Google Assistant understands. This list includes Phillips Hue colors, LifX colors, and other branded light colors. These colors will work with form of Google Assistant, including Google Home. Colors are an approximation. What you see with your Smart Light might be a bit different.

Quick note: If you use a different assistant, I also create lists for the other major assistants below:

Frequently Asked Questions

Can different manufacturers support different colors on Google Assistant?

No. Google determines what color names Google Assistant can understand. Google sends RGB Values to manufacturers when you issue a command to change the color. It’s up to the manufacture to set the right color on the light itself. More info can be found in the Google Developer Documentation.

Where did you find these color names?

Where are the unsupported color names from?

Most colors in the supported and unsupported lists are taken from various color standards and lists, like this Wikipedia list. The vast majority do work, but there are a few that aren’t supported.

Do these colors work for every Voice Assistant, like Alexa and Siri?

Each Voice Assistant understands many, but not all of the same colors. You can find other Voice Assistant Color Lists by looking at other Smart Light color articles.

  1. Oh my God! Thank you thank you thank you! You have no freaking idea how long I’ve been searching for a complete Google and Siri list of colors which was totally complete. This is fabulous! Would you mind if I share this page with my blog followers? I’d be happy to give you full credit for the list.

  2. Whenever I asked the Google Assistant to change the lights to “red”, it always failed to understand, instead using “read”. The workaround for this is to say colour then red. For example, “OK Google, change the office lights to colour red.”

I don’t think there is a way to have the ARGB LED strip lights to change to one of the other supported modes, like sound-linked or “breathing” or colour-shifting.
